Philippians 4:8-9 - Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable---if anything is excellent or praiseworthy---think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me---put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
These are more than encouraging, pretty words. They are instruction. Biblical direction. How often do we say, "God show me what to do.” , “God give me clear direction.” , “If God would just tell me what to do then it would be easier." Reread God’s words above. They are clear. They show you what to do. If you follow them, things will be easier. It says the GOD OF PEACE WILL BE WITH YOU.
The Bible is full of directions! It is just that we quickly dismiss what is written there, because we have learned that the Bible is stuffy, restrictive, boring, idealistic, or whatever other lies we have had come against us about the Bible. It seems confusing, because we have become so programmed by the world. They don’t line up. That is the work of the enemy. But how quickly do we make the choice to look at the news. Look at magazines. Look at the internet. How many of us turn on our phone when we first wake up and look at a social media feed, or our email, or turn on the TV and fill ourselves with needless bombardment of filth, lies, violence, judgement and contamination that get on to us like sticky, dirty oil? I will raise my hand! Guilty! Hear me friends. I am not saying that any of those things in themselves are evil. I love them and they are all amazing technologies! I am reaching you right now because of those technologies! It is just that they have become hinderers instead of helpers. Instead of being filled with things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy; they are filled with seemingly non-threatening things that do more damage to us subconsciously than we can imagine.
If we don't protect our eyes we WILL struggle. God gave us an answer for that. He has said put only GOOD things in front of our eyes! Some may argue, “Well so many Christian things are campy. They are cheesy. They try, but really miss the mark." I couldn't agree more! I am a creative and happen to be INCREDIBLY picky with the level of quality and cheese-factor to content. Nothing turns me off faster than poorly done, or non-intentional cheesy content. (I say non-intentional because there is some brilliantly done intentional cheese out there. haha!) But it doesn't have to be that way! God is the most brilliant creator (He IS the creator!!) we could ever have as an example! Just take your preferred setting of nature as an example. The most gorgeous clear water beach. The most majestic mountain terrain. The most breathtaking colorful sunset. The list is endless… but that in itself is the point! God created those. He created endless beauty! Now take it even further. He didn't use photoshop to touch it up. He didn't use filters or fake imitation to make them that way. He used science and reality! There is substance behind what He created. His creations aren’t movie sets that look like the real thing. Now take it one step further, He created them to run on auto pilot! The Earth is a live creative piece of constantly changing, self-sustaining, breathtaking artwork!
That level of creation is in our DNA.
We have all been given that potential. I am not speaking only to traditional creativity either. Im talking about the most brilliant math equation, the most amazing scientific discovery, the most awe-inspiring business deal, the greatest engineering feat, the most mind-blowing medical breakthrough, the most delicious recipe, the most beautiful garment. They are all born from creation. We just need to align ourselves to actually do it! Creation doesn't come from casualness; creation comes from commitment. How do we do that? By focusing our minds on all that is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. Today, let's not settle for cheap imitations. Let's not settle for fake filters. Let's learn to do things with reality, with integrity, with substance. We need to understand that these directives come from God because He loves us. They come from a place of Him wanting to see us succeed. Just as we give our children encouragement and guidance so that they will be successful and get the best things that they can out of life. I promise you that as you do this you will have unexpected results that will blow your mind. The world wants to suck us in to cheap imitation because that is the way the enemy works. He isn't original in any way so he rinses and repeats his unoriginal ideas by dressing them up and giving them shock value. Even worse, he knows that God wants us to focus on becoming creators even more than we do, so he tries to pervert all that is good. He perverts it so badly that it creates that shock value that grips our attention. The old saying, "You can't look away from a train wreck." God says you can, and if you do you will be FREE in actual reality to think like He thinks and create like He creates.
